10…adidas has announced the 10 startups taking part in its Platform A accelerator programme, which officially launched earlier this year.
£1.85 billion…Selfridges has not just survived in the internet age, it is thriving, according to Manu Tyagi, Associate Partner for Retail and Consumer Goods at Infosys Consulting.
The retailer has increased sales by 6% to £1.85 billion for the year to February 2019. But profits slipped to £170 million, from £175 million the previous year, as it increased investment. This includes the flagship Oxford Street branch becoming the first department store in the world with a cinema from November.
81%…Consumers believe that British supermarkets’ are not doing enough to go green, particularly around food and packaging waste, according to a report from Rubikloud.
The company surveyed more than 3,000 European shoppers. 81% said it was important that retailers and manufacturers reduce the amount of food and packaging waste, which ends up in landfill and oceans, in the next three years.
4…A wave of digitally-savvy, internationally-minded upstarts are powering growth in the retail sector, according to Loqate’s latest International Retail Index.
This benchmarks the 30 top performers by brand recognition, global presence, online capabilities, and volume of sales. Four of the top six are pureplays (Amazon, Asos, Boohoo.com and Zalando).
€15 million...Customer feedback platform Critizr has closed a €15 million funding round.
1,200…Hugo Boss has reopened its flagship store at Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris, following a seven month renovation project. With over 1,200 square metres of retail space, it is the brand’s largest store in the world, and features “an interior concept seamlessly integrating the online and offline experience”.
$31.5 million…DXP startup Contentstack has closed a $31.5 million Series A funding round led by Insight Partners with participation from existing backers Illuminate Ventures and GingerBread Capital.
55…Alipay has released an overseas transaction summary for this year’s Golden Week (1st to 7th October) holiday in China.
More than 300,000 merchants in 55 countries and regions participated in the campaign this year. Japan topped the list of top ten destinations by transaction volume for the first time, with Thailand taking second spot. Cambodia and the Philippines joined the top 10 list for the first time. The UK came in at number ten.
