Six innovative retail technology deployments and projects

These retailers and brands are leading the way in providing technology and experiences that are one step ahead of their customers’ expectations.

1. Starbucks and McDonald’s

Starbucks and McDonald’s are among the retailers rumoured to be testing China’s digital yuan currency.

2. Farfetch

Farfetch has announced the eight startups taking part in the fourth edition of its Dream Assembly fashion technology accelerator. 

Cerebra, Ivapparel, Favour up, M-XR, Newlife, Supply Compass, StyleScript and Whoqip will be offered mentorship, networking opportunities and support. 

3. AO

Online electricals retailer AO.com has announced a partnership with location service venture what3words.

Its customers across the UK will soon be able to provide a what3words address for their desired delivery place, with AO drivers having access to an app.

4. Tesco

Tesco has become the first retailer in the UK to fulfil one million online grocery orders in a week.

5. Laybuy

Buy now, pay later specialist Laybuy is running its deals day - Laybuy Mania - for the first time ever in the UK.

The event will see the likes of JD Sports, WHSmith and boohoo offering discounts of up to 50% off for those paying via Laybuy.

6. Ocado

Ocado has announced the launch of its first Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) in North America. 

Empire’s new online grocery home delivery service, Voilà by Sobeys, began testing orders this week through its facility in Vaughan, Ontario. A phased roll-out to customers across the Greater Toronto Area will begin when testing is completed.
