Amazon Robotics leader Brad Porter seeks new challenge
Amazon’s longtime robotics leader Brad Porter has confirmed media reports about his departure from the e-commerce giant.
“The rumours are true. I will be leaving Amazon at the end of the month to pursue a new opportunity,” he said in a Twitter post.
“I’m incredibly proud to have been part of such an amazing technical community of fearless builders. I’ll share more on what I’m doing next soon.”
Porter joined Amazon in 2007 and became a distinguished engineer in 2014, picking up a title given to only a handful of employees. During 2017, he became VP of Amazon Robotics.
Earlier this year, Porter made headlines when he defended Amazon from criticism from a former Vice President and distinguished engineer, Tim Bray, over its firing of employee activists.
Dave Clark, Amazon’s SVP of Worldwide Operations, said: “Brad has been a great Amazonian for nearly 15 years, contributed in big ways to the organisation, and has been someone I have enjoyed working closely with the past few years. I wish nothing but the best for Brad as he moves on to his new role.”
