10,000Amazon has announced that 10,000 new permanent roles are being created across the UK in 2020.

39% of consumers globally purchased from new brands during the coronavirus lockdown and 88% will continue to buy from those ventures in the future, according to research conducted by Bazaarvoice.

20%...Buy now, pay later schemes are tempting shoppers into taking on unsustainable debt, according to research by Money.co.uk. 

2,016 Brits aged 18-55 were surveyed for this. A fifth admitted to spending more than they could afford. 20% said buy now, pay later was a way to buy now and worry about it later. And the average debt to BNPL platforms was £176.05, taking eight months to pay off.

15% of UK retailers have created roles specifically to cater to an increase in digital sales and boost online capacity, according to research from Barclays Corporate Banking.

$11 million...E-commerce platform venture, Moteefe, has completed a $11 million funding round. 

New investor BGF led the round with participation from existing backers, including Gresham House Ventures and Force Over Mass Capital. It follows a $5 million Series A fundraise announced in February and brings Moteefe to $23 million in total funding.

5...Online electricals retailer, AO, has inked a five-year deal to become the headline sponsor of Manchester Arena.

10...Online retailer The Hut Group’s e-commerce services division, THG Ingenuity, has inked a 10-year, ‘multi-million pound’, digital transformation deal with Homebase.

11...The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has launched the Shopworkers’ Protection Pledge

Signatories pledge to stand with retail workers and support the legislation necessary to protect them. 11 cross-party MPs have thus far put their name to it.

1...Grabango has announced the first commercial use of its checkout-free system.

The startup has partnered with Giant Eagle, owner of GetGo Café+Market in the US, with its tech first being made available at a store in Fox Chapel, which serves the Greater Pittsburgh community.

15...Walmart will launch its Amazon Prime competitor Walmart+ on 15th September.

This costs $98 a year or $12.95 a month and comes with a 15-day free trial period. T

The offering includes the likes of unlimited free deliveries of groceries and general merchandise, discounts on fuel at Walmart gas stations, and in-store use of Scan & Pay in the retailer’s app.

$15 million...European retail tech startup Cosmose AI has completed a $15 million Series A investment round, valuing the company in excess of $100 million. 

30%...Best Buy is set to hire more than 1,000 new tech employees in the next two years. And 30% will be people of colour or women.

20...Ocado’s Chief Executive Tim Steiner this week hit out at Waitrose as the two got ready to officially part ways, ending a 20 year relationship.

12...Waitrose has announced a new delivery tie up with Deliveroo. A trial kicked off on 1st September and will run for 12 weeks. 

1,800...Amazon is adding more than 1,800 electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Vans to its delivery fleet in Europe this year. 

£2 billion...UK-based online marketplace OnBuy reports a record 24,000% GMV growth in four years, and says that it has its sights set on creating £2 billion in sales in the next three years.
