Online plans: The Very Group head honcho Lionel Desclée thinks about the future

Lionel Desclée, Group CEO at The Very Group, has taken to social media to discuss “an important few days at the company and for me personally”.

Last week, the company, which operates online retailer Very, held a number of live events at its HQ, talking about its strategy and hearing a talk from rugby legend Sir Clive Woodward.

In a LInkedIn post, Desclée said: “Last week, we talked about our future. I presented our new strategy to our head office team at our ‘Balcony Briefing’, and how we plan to give the families we serve even more convenience, flexibility and value.”

“It was the culmination of months of work by colleagues right across our business, and I’m excited to put our plan into action for customers.”

He added: “To celebrate, our leaders and teams held events throughout the day on customer experience, product, payments, our customers, and retail media, and our people heard from the incredible Sir Clive Woodward about his experiences in business and sport.”

On Wednesday of last week, Desclée visited employees in The Very Group’s Dublin office. “Our Irish team is such an important part of our business, and it was fantastic to speak to them about plans in Ireland and our strategy,” he commented.

The week also marked the third anniversary of Skygate, an automated fulfilment centre which opened the day the first national Covid-19 lockdown was announced and can take an item from order placement to ‘ready for despatch’ in as little as 12 minutes.

“Each one of our colleagues at Skygate has helped to transform the experience for our customers, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do,” Desclée concluded.
