Starship Technologies steps up autonomous delivery roll-out

Starship Technologies is planning to deploy over 1,000 delivery robots by year end.

It has been operating the service with Compass Group in the US and partners in Europe, but is now launching a global roll-out, kicking things off with education campuses on both sides of the Atlantic. “We’ve already partnered with Compass Group on the Intuit Mountain View campus in the US to provide accessible, convenient and sustainable robotic delivery,” says CEO, Ahti Heinla, Starship Technologies. “And after a successful start to the year and great reception to our robots, we are planning to dramatically expand our services and distribute thousands of robots across campuses around the world by 2019.”

On Intuit’s Mountain View campus, workers can order food and drink via the Starship app for delivery throughout the day. Starship says that its robots can deliver all manner of items from food and office stationery to auto-parts in large campus environments. To date, the most common item at Intuit has been breakfast sandwiches.

"The roll-out of Starship’s campus offering represents a major milestone in the development of delivery robots,” says Heinla. “Today’s announcement signals the next step in our journey. By providing campuses with our platform, we are leading the deployment of autonomous delivery at scale worldwide.”
