Getir UK offers free Lurpak butter as shoppers fume over soaring prices

Rapid grocery delivery firm Getir is giving away free Lurpak butter in the UK.

The product has gone viral as Brits take to social media to reveal how much its price has risen in various supermarkets.

The obsession reached a peak this week, making mainstream media headlines aplenty, with a 1kg tub of Lurpak spotted for £9.35 by one person.

Getir shoppers can go on its app and get a free tub of the butter delivered straight to their door when they spend a minimum of £20.

The offer is available while stocks last, so you should probably get your skates on.

Kristoff van Beveren, GM at Getir UK, says, "We want to make sure the nation isn't deprived of butter on their toast in the morning so we are making our current stock of Lurpak butter free when you spend £20 until stocks last.”

“It's the only Lurpak offer available in the UK right now that won’t break the bank. It's part of our ongoing commitment to give our customers value up and down the country."

Russian oligarch

Getir this week addressed speculation that UK government sanctioning of a Russian oligarch (Vladimir Potanin) linked to investment in the firm will impact its funding.

Moscow-based Winter Capital was among several backers as Getir raised $550 million in a Series D investment last year. It is partially backed by Potanin’s firm Interros and currently has a 0.45% minority stake in Getir.

“Winter Capital officers have once again confirmed that it currently has no direct or indirect relationship to Vladimir Potanin,” a Getir spokesperson said.

“Based on the legal advice we have received from our external counsel, Winter Capital is not subject to the sanctions announced by the UK government. Therefore, at this stage, by law we cannot take any action.”

They added: “Getir always operates respectful to the laws and regulations of the country in which it operates. As such, in the future, we will also continue to take the measures necessary to ensure our compliance.”
