Improving your business premises in five simple steps
A lot of people work in pretty grim surroundings, with flickering overhead lights, desk chairs that hurt their backs, and a kitchen that consists of a smelly fridge and one bin that lost its lid a long time ago. If you want to improve your business premises, here are some easy tips.
Focus on light
Firstly, make sure that there’s plenty of natural light in your office space. Having overhead lighting over computers can lead to bad headaches and even migraines, so having plenty of natural light streaming in from the windows is a much better idea - just make sure that no one has any sun rays blasting them directly in the retinas! Make sure you open the windows regularly so that people get plenty of fresh air too.
Add communal spaces
It’s important to encourage everyone in the office to get along well, so why not introduce a communal space? That might be a large dining table where people can eat their lunch or a small outside garden where people can relax or even a seating area with comfortable chairs and sofas where people can chill out together at the end of the day. Allowing people to socialise away from their desks will help them learn to communicate more effectively with eachother.
Make sure everyone feels safe
It’s crucial that everybody feels safe at work, but it isn’t always financially feasible to have someone at the door each day to check IDs and make sure that everybody in the building is supposed to be there. Make sure that everyone has a company ID on a lanyard around their necks - this ID could also be used to let them into other parts of the building (but make sure that bathrooms are easily accessible!).
Make a brand of your business and have it custom made by an online supplier of lanyards and ID card-holders. 4inlanyards is the perfect brand to visit for this ordering purpose.
They are good at making quality products that can be used for individual and company identification at a highly competitive price. Your staff will love the products because now they can wear their IDs comfortably. It is cheaper than hiring staff for identity checks, hence beneficial for your budget and business.
Make sure that there’s a lot of lighting outside the entrance for dark winter mornings and nights - people deserve to feel safe when entering and leaving their place of work.
What about the warehouse?
It’s important to remember that the warehouse is just as important as the office and deserves to be treated as such. Make sure that everything used there is good quality, like PRQ pallet racking, and that injuries are prevented by ensuring that all warehouse employees are fully trained in how to use all their machinery and equipment.
Because performance targets are so important in warehouses, why not implement an incentive scheme? This can be displayed on posters on the wall - they’ll be both attractive and motivational. You should also make sure that the warehouse, like the office, has a comfortable kitchen and communal space with natural light.
Plants and greenery
Finally, adding plants and greenery is a cheap and easy way to decorate your office - and they improve the atmosphere in there both literally and figuratively! Make sure that you don’t get anything that smells too strong, as some people have allergies, and ensure that someone waters them every day.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to get a great business premises - focus on your employees and what they want from their place of work, and you’ll be set.
