Tommy Bahama gears up to deploy Aptos ONE mobile Point of Sale solution across more than 160 stores

Tommy Bahama has selected Aptos ONE, a mobile first PoS application built on a cloud native platform.

“In today’s retail landscape, technology is absolutely foundational to engaging our guests,” says Tommy Bahama’s Executive Vice President of Technology, Dave Boland. “In our stores, the experience is largely delivered through our store associates. Aptos ONE will enable our associates to provide highly personalised and frictionless service. The platform’s flexibility will also unlock new opportunities as we continue to evolve our offerings.”

“One example is increased mobility. Our associates can serve guests right in the aisle while they’re still evaluating purchase decisions, rather than waiting until the guest has already made a decision and walked to the cash wrap,” he adds.

“Another advantage of Aptos ONE is its speed. This PoS solution is quick and intuitive, enabling more convenient and streamlined transactions. Plus, with its highly composable architecture, we’ll be able to add capabilities much faster than before, ensuring our retail experience remains fresh, differentiated and highly aligned with our guests’ needs.”.

The decision to implement the solution was also driven by several IT and operational considerations.

“With just a few clicks, you can make changes across the entire store network or specific stores, giving us the ability to react very quickly while reducing cost and complexity,” sayss David Liu Jr., Product Manager, Retail Systems and Payment Technology at Tommy Bahama.

Aptos ONE’s integration with the broader Aptos suite deployed at Tommy Bahama (including customer relationship management, order management, merchandising and sales audit solutions) was a critical factor, providing a unified commerce approach and a single version of the truth for customer, order, inventory and transaction data. Integration with third-party solutions is also made easier with Aptos ONE’s integration options.

For Tommy Bahama, there are various opportunities for pop-up shops, such as at resorts, beaches, golf tournaments and corporate outings.

“With Aptos ONE being utilised at pop-up shops, transactions and data will flow through to our enterprise systems in real-time, which isn’t always the case today,” Liu says. “We can scale our pop-up activities in a meaningful way, paving the way for boosted revenue streams and the ability to introduce Tommy Bahama to more people who want to ‘Live the Island Life.’”

“Tommy Bahama understands that a powerful brand experience extends to every customer interaction, in stores and beyond,” says Aptos General Manager Jeremy Grunzweig. “With upscale, high quality products; impeccable service; and a ‘paradise found’ mindset, Tommy Bahama is a lifestyle retail icon. We’re looking forward to our next chapter of growth and innovation with Tommy Bahama as they deploy Aptos ONE.”

2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS

PoS solutions will be a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.

The awards. which are now open for entries, celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our 2024 hall of fame entrants were revealed during an event which took place at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place HQ in Central London on 21st November, and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by comedian Lucy Porter.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “The event is now into its sixth year and what a journey it has been. The awards started life as an online only affair during the Covid outbreak, before launching as a small scale in real life event and growing year on year to the point where we’re now selling out this fine, historic venue.”

He added: “Congratulations to all of our finalists. Many submissions did not make it through to the final stage, and getting to this point is no mean feat. Checkout-free stores, automated supply chains, immersive experiences, on-demand delivery, next generation loyalty offerings, inclusive retail, green technology. We’ve got all the cool stuff covered this evening.”

“But just importantly we’ve got lots of great examples of companies taking innovative tech and making it usable in everyday operations - resulting in more efficiency and profitability in all areas.”

Congratulations to our 2024 winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Lucy Porter, and all those who attended November's gathering.
