Burger King UK stores will not be re-opening this week

Ignore the rumours doing the rounds on social media. Burger King’s UK restaurants will not be back in business this week.

Late last month, the fast food giant shut its doors amid the coronavirus crisis.

The plan had been to keep its delivery and drive thrus open. Restaurants are still allowed to do this and the likes of Domino’s and Pizza Hut have gone down the takeaway only route. Alas, Burger King had a last minute change of heart.

“To all Whopper fans. In what we can only call unprecedented times, it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to temporarily close all Burger King UK restaurants,” the company said in a message posted on its social media channels.

“It's not something we want to do, but it is the right thing to do right now. We are following all advice by the Government and Public Health England as the situation develops and want to play our part at this time.”

‘We have exciting things coming in the future , so we’ll see you on the other side,” it concluded.

Quarantine Whopper

Burger King’s has rustled up a recipe for a Quarantine Whopper, which customers can make at home for themselves.

Shared via a Burger King France tweet, this features eight ingredients — buns, onions, pickles, ketchup, beef patties, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomatoes. The retailer even posted a step-by-step video, which shows how to make the Whopper while you’re under lockdown.

It has also shared recipes for quarantine versions of other popular items, such as its fish sandwich and its steakhouse burger. The move proved to be a huge hit on social media, with hundreds of customers weighing in with their thoughts.

“We do what we can, please send me one,” one Twitter user commented, along with a photo of their creation.

Others were less enthusiastic, however. “Don’t advertise like that. People will realise that a homemade burger is 100 times better,” one person joked.
