It’s Friday, so let’s kick back and reflect on another eventful week for the retail technology space. Here's your briefing on the most important and interesting stories from the past few days.

1. Asos announces new £90m warehouse as business booms

Asos is set to open a new £90 million fulfilment warehouse in the face of “ever increasing customer demand”.

The online fashion retailer says the site in Lichfield, Staffordshire, will employ 2,000 people over the next three years as it looks to further develop its offerings and delivery capabilities.

The 437,000 sq ft facility will be operational within 12 months. 

2. Tesco reports record online sales growth amid coronavirus crisis

Tesco delivered over seven million online grocery orders, containing more than 400 million individual items, during the Christmas period.

It made the announcement whilst reporting its 3Q and Christmas 2020/21 results.

3. John Lewis switches off Click and Collect amid coronavirus lockdown

Click and Collect services based within John Lewis department stores are to be temporarily suspended, the retailer announced this week.

4. Tom Betts discusses huge Kingfisher data opportunity

Kingfisher Data Director Tom Betts has set out his vision for the home improvement retailer.

Betts came onboard in September from the Financial Times, where he was Chief Data Officer.

5. UK online retailers end 2020 on a high as Covid reshapes sector

UK online sales growth came in at +37% year on year for December, driving the annual figure to a 13 year high, according to research from IMRG and Capgemini.
