2,000…A high street presence is increasingly influencing consumers’ decisions on whether they shop with brands online, according to research from Retail Technology Show, involving 2,000 UK shoppers.

30%…UK direct to consumer brands – including Huel, Bloom & Wild, and Peloton – are failing to provide their customers with an efficient and transparent online returns experience, according to research from parcelLab.

The company placed test orders with 50 of the UK’s largest DTC brands. 

All of them were delivered to a London address using standard delivery where possible. Data was collected across checkout, shipping, delivery and returns.

Just 30% of the brands notified the customer that the order had arrived back at their fulfilment centre following a return. 

1Amazon is prepping a new Amazon Go convenience store format aimed at suburban shoppers and powered by the e-commerce giant’s Just Walk Out frictionless checkout technology.

The first of these locations, which will offer grab and go foods, beverages and everyday essentials, is set to open in the near future in the Seattle suburb of Mill Creek, Washington.

Amazon will then target the Los Angeles region. The new stores will line up alongside Amazon's existing fleet of smaller, urban focused Go outlets.

$150 millionDeliverect, a Belgian startup that aims to simplify online food delivery, has secured more than $150 million (€130 million) in a Series D funding round led by Coatue and Alkeon Capital, as well as existing investors OMERS Ventures, DST Global, Redpoint Ventures, Newion and Smartfin.

This brings Deliverect to $240 million raised to date and puts the company's valuation at over $1.4 billion.

2,010…Demand for real human expertise is on the rise, as consumers become increasingly conscious about what and how they’re spending in an ever changing Covid world.

That’s according to a new report from UK-based tech retailer Currys and The Future Laboratory, which includes a survey of 2,010 Brits.

$39 million…Cross-border e-commerce shipping startup, Passport, has secured $39 million in Series B funding.

€50 millionUS-based autonomous delivery services firm Starship Technologies has agreed a €50 million quasi-equity facility agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB), the lending arm of the European Union (EU).

The financing, which is supported by the European Fund for Strategic Investments, has been facilitated via a venture loan, and will be used for R&D, including the building of thousands more robots at Starship’s engineering and innovation facility in Tallinn, Estonia. 

18Decathlon UK has launched a new partnership with fashion rental platform, Hirestreet, making it the first major sports brand to offer such a service.

Its collection consists of 18 different styles of high performance ski and hiking jackets and trousers for women, ranging from sizes: 6 to 16.

Prices start from £15 to rent for a four-day period (RRP between £60 and £200).

$22.5 million…Latin America-based grocery delivery startup Calii has bagged $22.5 million in a Series A funding round co-led by Dalus Capital and JAM Fund, with participation from backers including Forerunner Ventures, Streamlined Ventures, Y Combinator and Base10 Partners. 

550The number of Nisa stores using the company’s Evolution EPoS system has risen by a quarter in the last year.

Nearly 550 stores now have the system, and Nisa, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Co-operative Group, is on track to hit 700+ in 2022. 190 were installed in 2021.
