Amazon Prime Day 2020 a record breaking event for third party sellers

Third party sellers, most of which were SMEs, surpassed $3.5 billion in sales on Amazon Prime Day 2020, a nearly 60% year-over-year increase.

The event took place on 13th and 14th October.

It was available for Prime members in the US, UK U.A.E, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia, and – participating for the first time this year – Turkey and Brazil.

The sale typically takes place in mid-July, but was postponed this year amidst the coronavirus outbreak as Amazon grappled with the unenviable task of handling both a surge in online orders and various rules designed to keep its warehouse workers safe.

“We are thrilled that Prime Day was a record breaking event for small and medium businesses worldwide,” says Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer.

“We’re also proud that Prime members saved more than $1.4 billion, and we look forward to providing more opportunities for our selling partners to grow and customers to save throughout the holiday season.”

“I’m incredibly thankful to our employees and partners around the world who helped make Prime Day possible, especially the dedicated frontline teams in our fulfilment centres and delivery operations,” he added.
