Pornhub slammed for black lives matter tweet

As protests take place in dozens of US cities and around the world over the death of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, Pornhub has taken to Twitter to express its support for the black lives matter movement.

The adult entertainment platform said that it stood “in solidarity against racism and social injustice. If you are able, we encourage you to give to organisations like @bailproject, @BlackVisionsMN, @MNFreedomFund, @splcenter, @NAACP.”

It added: “We pledge to support by donating $100,000 to organisations actively fighting for equality. We hope you will join us.”

Cue a flurry of angry responses, many of which can’t be published here. “Says the people who have racism all over their site and recently people were making fun of george floyd on there,” said one person.

Another commented: “Anyone who believes this is beyond brainwashed. Pornhub makes money off of incredibly racist videos and trafficked women and children, and they say they review EVERY video. Disgusting site needs to be taken down, you don't care about anything but money.”

Petition

An online petition calling on the US Department of Justice to shut down PornHub for hosting videos of sex trafficking victims has nearly hit one million signatures.

Pornhub has offered its Premium service free of charge in the face of the coronavirus crisis and various countries being locked down.

However, its critics have blasted this as an attempt to silence complaints against the aforementioned videos. “Pornhub has no reliable system in place to verify that those in the videos it hosts are not trafficked children being raped on film in order to line the pockets of its executives,” the petition states.

“Recently the Internet Watch Foundation stated that it alone had confirmed 118 cases of child rape, sexual abuse and trafficking on Pornhub; half of the videos were Category A level abuse which is the worst kinds of abuse,” it adds.

“What all of this means is that at this very moment, there could be hundreds, if not thousands, of videos of underage sex trafficking victims on Pornhub. We already have evidence, and it is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s time to shut down this super-predator site and hold the executives behind it accountable,” the petition concludes.
