Former Morrisons Aldridge store manager Sean Egan ramps up social media efforts following controversial dismissal
Last month, Sean Egan made the headlines for being sacked by Morrisons after the then Aldridge store manager intervened when a repeat shoplifter became abusive.
Egan, 46, who had worked in the store, near Walsall, for 29 years, said at the time: "As the store manager, I put myself in a position to protect my staff and customers. There's a lot of pressure in retail to protect the product, to not lose money, as you would in any business and I tried to do that."
Morrisons said it could not comment on individual cases, but the health and safety of all colleagues and customers was of paramount importance.
In a LinkedIn post, dated Friday, 8th May, Egan commented: "A new chapter begins. Over the past few months, I’ve connected with thousands of people through conversations around retail, leadership, community, resilience and personal growth."
He added: "One thing that’s become very clear is the power of sharing experiences and bringing people together. So moving forward, I’m going to become far more active across social media and begin documenting more of the journey, the lessons, the challenges, the fitness goals, community work, behind the scenes moments and everything in between."
"I’ve always believed in showing up with energy, authenticity and positivity, even during difficult periods, and I’m excited for what comes next. Appreciate all the support and connections recently. Let’s see where this journey leads."
Vusion
Morrisons reports that it has installed its 50th store with digital shelf edge labels.
In a LinkedIn post, Charlotte Rush, Senior Productivity Manager - Projects at Morrisons, said: "Through our strategic partnership with Vusion, we are leveraging technology to enhance the shelf-edge experience for our customers whilst driving operational efficiency. By automating historically manual processes, we are empowering our store teams to focus more on serving our customers."
She added: "A massive thank you to the amazing team whose hard work and expertise have enabled us to deliver the roll-out at such a pace. I am looking forward to working with you all more as we continue the roll-out across the rest of our estate."
RTS 2026
Vusion was last month announced as the winner of Retail Technology Show’s 2026 Innovation Awards.
The annual programme recognises standout solutions from across RTS 2026, which took place in London.
The 2026 Innovation Awards were judged by a panel of retail experts, including influencer Andrew Busby, Retail Disrupted podcast host Natalie Berg, consultant Oliver Banks and IGD analyst Toby Pickard. The judges were impressed with Vusion’s scalability, and commented on its multi-use benefits, inter-connectivity to power store wide tech eco systems, and how it helps retailers digitalise and improve store performance.
Busby commented: "Physical retail is where brands connect with their customers, which is why we're witnessing rapid digital transformation. Vusion is at the forefront of this and is reshaping the store experience for both store colleagues and customers, making them very worthy winners of the RTS Innovation Awards."
“In today’s retail landscape, innovation lies at the heart of unlocking competitive advantage, and shows like Retail Technology Show sit at the forefront of that strategy, making this award the more meaningful,” said Roy Horgan, Group SEVP, Strategy, Marketing & Communications at Vusion.
“With operational costs continuing to rise, technology remains one of the last bastions of productivity – and innovation sits undeniably at the intersection of unlocking greater effectiveness and business performance. As digital transformation evolves, the RTS’ judging panel has recognised that EdgeSense is where data and physical retail converge.”
The award was presented to Vusion by RTS Founder & Event Director, Matt Bradley, at the BIG Retail Party, which took place at the end of day one of RTS 2026 at the Champagne Bar, sponsored by PMC.
“Every year the hotly contested Innovation Awards celebrate tech that tracks ahead of the hype curve, and Vusion is a worthy winner,” said Bradley. “With its vision of a truly connected store tech ecosystem, Vusion is pushing the boundaries of how effective and interoperable innovation can unlock layers of new intelligence within bricks and mortar operations.”
