Savvy predicts record breaking Father’s Day
46% of UK shoppers plan to spend more this year than last on Father’s Day, with total expenditure on the event forecasted to reach £799 million, according to Savvy.
Alastair Lockhart, Insight Director at Savvy, comments: “Father’s Day marks the end of a solid performance for the events calendar during the first half of 2018, which has provided some positivity in an otherwise challenging retail market. Following on from the feel-good warm weather of May and early June, and overlapping the start of the World Cup, Father’s Day looks set for a strong sales performance. Our research suggests record breaking sales for the event with more people than ever looking for personalised gifts and shopping online – especially using smartphones.”
In terms of getting inspiration for Father’s Day presents, shoppers are turning to: retailers’ websites (63%) or other websites (57%); a text message conversation with a friend or family member (44%); 36% will be inspired by a WhatsApp chat with a friend or family member; a printed magazine/newspaper would be the place to look for 31% and Facebook is also popular (34%), along with YouTube (27%) and Instagram (25%).
