JD.com announces record breaking 2019 6.18 shopping festival
JD.com made $29.2 billion in sales during its annual 6.18 shopping festival, a record high for the Chinese e-commerce giant. Last year, it took in $24.7 billion.
New products played a key role here. JD launched an exclusive promotional channel within its platform, making them easy for consumers to find. Other highlights included the Consumer-to-Manufacturer (C2M) initiative which employs Big Data tech to provide brands with consumer insights, enabling them to adjust their manufacturing and marketing approaches accordingly.
Also, several new brands launched on JD during 6.18, including Italian designer brand Prada and online luxury fashion platform, Farfetch.
Meanwhile, technology played a major part in improving the consumer experience, with 91% of orders coming from JD fulfilment centres delivered same-or next-day. The company’s smart customer service robot fielded more than 32 million inquiries, of which it solved 90% independently, thus freeing up its human counterparts to deal with more complicated inquiries.
