O2 builds virtual store on Snapchat for Samsung Black Friday deals
O2 has opened an ‘AR Store of the Future’ on Snapchat as part of its Black Friday activity.
In what is pitched as a UK telco first, from Black Friday until 8th December, Snapchatters will be able to visit the store and shop products by clicking on them to explore in more detail.
They can also buy through a Shop Now button present throughout the lens experience.
Created in partnership with Snap, this is part of a campaign to promote O2’s Black Friday offers on three Samsung products - Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and Samsung Galaxy Watch4.
Simon Valcarcel, Marketing Director at Virgin Media O2, comments: “Black Friday is an important sales period for O2 and our phone partners so it's essential that our campaigns cut through all the noise to raise awareness of our great deals during this time.”
“Our first AR Shop of the Future offers a unique and engaging shopping experience for our customers, enabling them to explore our Black Friday Samsung deals and make a purchase when and where it suits them.”
Brits still dig Black Friday/Cyber Monday
53% of UK consumers are planning to make purchases in the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, according to new research commissioned by Treasure Data.
This rises to 75% for 18-34 year olds, 64% for 35-54 year olds, and falls to 35% of over 55s.
Andrew Stephenson, Director of Marketing, EMEA at Treasure Data, says: “What’s clear is that Black Friday and Cyber Monday remain key retail dates for young people - those that have grown up watching the retail phenomenon evolve and grow.”
“Brands catering to Gen X and Millennial audiences in particular have a huge opportunity to engage new and loyal customers.”
