42matters flags precarious state of US rapid grocery delivery market
Following JOKR’s announcement that it will no longer operate in the United States, 42matters has used its app intelligence to analyse the state of the fast grocery market in that country.
In particular, it looked at recent download trends and monthly usage stats to determine just how precarious the market is.
iOS and Android downloads for fast grocery apps are down 75% from the beginning of 2022.
In total, the iOS versions of these apps have been downloaded 645,597 times in the United States between 1st January and 21st June.
Gopuff leads the way with 557,349 downloads.
Getir has 69,541 downloads.
Gorillas has 16,215 downloads.
JOKR has 2,492 downloads.
The Android versions of these apps have been downloaded 446,435 times in the United States thus far in 2022.
Gopuff leads the way with 351,881 downloads.
Getir has 66,504 downloads.
Gorillas has 22,892 downloads.
JOKR has 5,158 downloads.
At first glance, these numbers look pretty strong, especially for Gopuff and Getir.
But downloads have tapered significantly. Indeed, Gopuff began the year with record numbers, at times surpassing 15,000 daily downloads in the United States across both platforms. However, currently, it’s pulling in a modest 2,000 - 4,000 per day.
JOKR has had an even tougher go of it, failing to crack 10,000 downloads in 2022 (year to date). Its usage stats aren't terrible. It had 1,417 monthly active users in Boston and New York last month.
But the numbers are not growing, and it’s hard to justify treading water in times of so much economic uncertainty, 42matters argues.
