Director of Technology Ross Hompstead exits Asos after NI Tech Hub and Topshop initiatives

Ross Hompstead has left Asos, where he spent the last four years, joining as Site Lead Northern Ireland Tech Hub, before becoming Director of Technology.

In a LinkedIn post, he said: "After four incredible years that have shaped me for the better as a leader, my time at Asos is drawing to a close. It’s been a week of reflection on my final trip to Greater London House and I feel deeply thankful to have delivered some amazing moments together.”

These included: scaling the NI Tech Hub and seeing the culture evolve with the people; launching Topshop.,com with an elevated editorial shopping experience; designing and executing a pivot to product operating model; leading CX through a successful peak period.

He added: "All of these moments were made possible by the people - Asosers are some of the most talented, passionate and genuinely wonderful people I’ve ever had the privilege of working alongside. The people are what make leaving Asos such a difficult decision. Thank you all for the support, challenge, laughs and fun we had along the way."

"A special shout out, among the many people who made the journey incredible, to Karl Pestell (Head of Technology) and Victoria McBride (Product Manager) who were integral in the early days of setting up the NI Tech Hub - what a journey.”

“As for what’s next - I’m taking some time to explore where I can bring value next year and I’m excited about diving into a new challenge. All that’s left to say is thank you Asos - it’s been a blast and I’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines."

2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS

Online retail was a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.

VoCoVo, Everseen, Sensei, Gander, Iceland, Olio, Trust Retail, East of England Co-op, Lekkerland SE, Poq, Mamas & Papas, Varner, Sitoo, and Zebra Technologies were among our winners this year.

We received a record number of entries and many fantastic examples of the continued resilience and dynamism of the retail space during hugely challenging times.

For a full rundown of all of the shortlisted entries, click here.

Our 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC in Central London on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”

“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”

He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”

Congratulations to our winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Tiff Stevenson, and all those who attended our 2025 gathering.
