GameStop preps Immutable X powered NFT marketplace

Video game retailer GameStop is partnering with blockchain startup Immutable to launch a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace later this year.

This will enable gamers to buy, sell and trade in-game assets.

Immutable X is a layer-2 scaling solution for NFTs on Ethereum, and GameStop will be using its liquidity platform.

The two companies have also set up a $100 million grant fund to support developers who will launch their gaming NFT projects on the marketplace.

“We’re excited to be working with GameStop and leading gaming publishers to support genuine power to players,” says Robbie Ferguson, Co-founder, Immutable.

“Gaming is now bigger than music and movies combined, but the time and value that gamers invest cannot be turned into real economic value.”

“GameStop, in partnership with Immutable, has the potential to cement itself as the ultimate destination for the next paradigm of gaming; true in-game economies that enable permissionless ownership of in-game items and value players for their time.”

“GameStop’s NFT marketplace will bring the power of an insanely strong community to its over 50 million users and every developer that launches on it, and our technology will make it faster, easier, and more affordable to do so, while being 100% carbon-neutral.”

GameStop, which rocked Wall Street in January 2021 when a group of small scale, mainly inexperienced investors, led by a frenzy on Reddit, sparked an historic short squeeze where they drove up its stock prices, signalled its interest in blockchain tech last year, advertising for a head of Web 3 gaming as well as a variety of NFT-based jobs.

This week, Adam Handling’s flagship bar, Eve Bar, launched what is pitched as London’s first NFT cocktail menu collection. This consists of 13 pieces, created in collaboration with a local artist and bartenders.

Adam Handling Restaurant Group, which also includes Frog by Adam Handling in Covent Garden, restaurant and pub with guest bedrooms, The Loch & The Tyne, and the Ugly Butterfly restaurant and bar in St. Ives Cornwall, will release the London/NFT first on Opensea.

The collection, which features pieces inspired by Eve Bar’s signature cocktails, will have minimum prices to cover transaction fees and others will be set as high as 2ETH (approx. £4,000 at time of release), offering people the opportunity to mint (purchase) an NFT via the Opensea platform.

Each NFT from the collection will come with a recipe card so buyers can make the cocktail themselves at home, as well as including an undisclosed amount of complimentary cocktails at Eve Bar.

Included in the collection are three rare NFTs, exclusively designed and created by Eve Bar’s Bar Manager, Marco Grisafi and Head Bartender Giulia Gazzetto, as well as from Josh Linfitt, Bar Manager of Ugly Butterfly.

These will come with a recipe, associated with their bespoke cocktail, that only the creator and buyer will own. The buyers of these rare NFTs will also receive a one to one, digital or in-person masterclass with the NFT curator.

After an NFT within the collection is purchased, the cocktail recipe will be revealed.
