Pornhub Apparel goes offline but says it will be back
Adult entertainment site Pornhub’s e-commerce venture, Pornhub Apparel, is currently closed for business. And we’re not sure when the fashion pureplay will be back in action.
Powered by Shopify, the spin off launched in 2015, offering a New York-themed apparel collection in conjunction with artists like Baron Von Fancy, Ces, and Cope2.
"We're super psyched to be making our first foray into the world of fashion and street wear," Corey Price, Vice President, Pornhub, said at the time.
He added: "Each of the four individuals we've collaborated with on the design front to make this happen are insanely talented and add their own flavour to every component of the collection.”
“This gives us utmost confidence in sharing our new line with those that attend our upcoming pop-up shop, as well as the world at large via the launch of Pornhub Apparel."
The online retailer remained open during the coronavirus outbreak, albeit with shipping to some countries temporarily disabled.
Now, however, visitors to the site are being greeted with the message: ‘the new collection is coming soon’.
Pornhub did not respond to our request for further information.
Under fire
Late last year, Visa temporarily suspended purchases on Pornhub.
This followed allegations made in a New York Times report of child abuse and nonconsensual activity on the platform.
Mastercard and Discover also cut ties. Pornhub then took action in response to the allegations, including expanded moderation and banning downloads.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our community,” it said in an online statement. “Our core values such as inclusivity, freedom of expression and privacy are only possible when our platform is trusted by our users.”
“This is why we have always been committed to eliminating illegal content, including non-consensual material and child sexual abuse material. Every online platform has the moral responsibility to join this fight, and it requires collective action and constant vigilance.”
“Over the years, we have put in place robust measures to protect our platform from non-consensual content, and we are constantly improving our trust and safety policy to better flag, remove, review and report illegal material. We hope that we have demonstrated our dedication to leading by example.”
