Pavers unlocks data’s full potential: RTIH presents last week’s biggest retail technology plays at a glance

RTIH rounds up the stand out retail systems deals, launches, deployments and pilots from the past seven days. Including Clekt, Trafford Centre, Living Map, Instacart, Rohlik Group, Amazon, John Lewis & Partners, Sprouts, Harmons, The Save Mart Companies, Rosauers, and Asda.

Amazon

Amazon has launched Prime Air drone delivery for customers in Tolleson, Arizona.

Customers who live near Amazon's same-day facility in the city, which is located west of Phoenix, can now have deliveries completed in under an hour using the company’s MK30 drones.

These smaller sites are hybrid, part fulfilment centre, part delivery station.

More than 50,000 items are available for drone delivery in Tolleson, including household products, beauty items and office supplies. Products have to weigh five pounds or less to be eligible, and there is a fee for the service.

In an online post, Amazon says: “Since starting drone delivery in 2022, we’ve delivered thousands of items to customers in less than an hour. Last year we also began delivering prescription medications in partnership with Amazon Pharmacy to customers in College Station, Texas. We’ve received great feedback from customers and communities as we’ve rolled out the service.”

“Earlier this year, we announced we hit our fastest Prime delivery speeds ever in the US and around the world, with more than five billion items arriving the same or next day globally.”

Trafford Centre

Living Map has become a mapping and wayfinding partner navigating shoppers through the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

At 2.2 million square feet, with over 200 stores, restaurants and leisure activities, navigating Trafford Centre can often be a challenge for some visitors.

A live, digital map is now available on its website and on screens throughout the mall.

The map details each retailer within the centre, car parks, entrances and services such as toilets, guest services and escalators/lifts. It offers live intelligence on each of these retailers and services, for example, if an escalator is out of service this will be highlighted on the map.

Customers can also input where they want to go, such as a particular store, and the map will provide a direct route to that location.
