Diebold Nixdorf declares war on shrink in retail stores with artificial intelligence powered offering

Diebold Nixdorf has kicked off the roll-out of its new AI-based checkout solutions, as first seen at NRF 2024 last week.

This knows if shoppers are intentionally or unintentionally miss-scanning, if a product doesn’t match its label, or if a customer accidentally left milk in the cart without paying, plus more than a dozen other sources of loss at self-service checkouts.

It will complement Diebold Nixdorf's other AI-based solutions, which reduce friction during fresh produce scanning and age verification for restricted sales.

Mangopay adds payments industry veteran Liz Oakes to its board as Non-Executive Director 

Mangopay, a payment infrastructure provider for platforms and marketplaces, has announced the appointment of Liz Oakes to its board as a Non-Executive Director.  

Oakes has enjoyed a long career in the payments industry.

She was most recently based at Mastercard, where she held executive roles in the company’s payments businesses and other global positions leading strategy, market and product development. 

PLUS Retail expands RELEX Solutions partnership as it taps promotional planning and optimisation solution

PLUS Retail, the third largest service supermarket organisation in the Netherlands, is expanding its partnership with RELEX Solutions. The goal is to optimise promotion planning, management, and the optimisation process. 

Metro Brands and Nextail team up in bid to revolutionise merchandise planning for Indian footwear

Metro Brands, an Indian footwear and accessory specialty retailer, has entered into a strategic partnership with Nextail, a merchandise planning platform for fashion.

The long-term agreement encompasses a number of AI driven solutions across buying and merchandising.

Premier League giants Manchester United enlist SCAYLE for new e-commerce experience

Manchester United has chosen SCAYLE as its official e-commerce platform partner.

The Premier League football club’s new e-commerce experience will launch later this year and continue to be evolved in alignment with the club’s ambition of delivering a best in class direct-to-consumer experience for its global fan base.

SCAYLE provides the technical backbone for more than 140 online stores and was specifically designed for B2C use cases with a strong focus on the fashion, lifestyle and sports sectors.

Hot dog serving robot goes live at Żabka Polska’s network of Żabka Nano autonomous stores

Żabka Polska has added a hot dog serving robot, named Robbie, to its network of AiFi powered Żabka Nano autonomous stores.

This has been created in collaboration with VeloxAlpha.

Customers can order via multiple payment methods and customise their hot dog with preferred toppings.

DNA Payments Group hires Adyen’s Jan-Pieter Lips as CEO as it eyes next phase of growth in UK and EU

DNA Payments Group, an omnichannel payments company operating in the UK and EU, has appointed former Adyen executive, Jan-Pieter (JP) Lips, as its new Chief Executive Officer. 

He will be responsible for DNA Payments’ next period of growth as the company continues to develop and provide payments solutions into fast growing vertical market sectors such as restaurants and specialist retail.  

Lips was co-founder of the Nectar programme back in 2002.

He has spent the last four and a half years as Head of Unified Commerce at FinTech big hitter, Adyen.

There, he was responsible for the omnichannel verticals and for development and driving adoption of the Unified Commerce offering, pitched at omnichannel companies in retail, food and beverage, and hospitality.

HERE Technologies agrees partnership expansion with what3words to enable access and use across industries

HERE Technologies, a location data and technology platform, has announced an expansion of its global partnership with addressing system what3words.

Starting this year, customers using the HERE platform’s Location Services application programming interfaces (APIs) will be able to activate their what3words licence via HERE.  

The latter says that it is making what3words available in its platform amid increasing consumer demand for the technology.

Its automotive customers are already able to activate their what3words licence via their account managers, and the latest agreement between the two companies will bring this offering to those across other verticals.

what3words has divided the globe into a grid of 3 metre x 3 metre squares, and given each one a unique combination of three words: a what3words address.  

US convenience retailer Family Express goes live with new mobile app offering on Rovertown platform

Family Express, a US-based chain of convenience stores, has announced the release of a new mobile app experience.

“It’s never been easier to order a Friday night pizza, or save big on a favourite snack or your next fill-up with F.E. Perks,” says Family Express Corporation’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Gus Olympidis.

Rob Barnes departs Marks and Spencer for Technology Delivery Director role at grocery retailer Asda

Rob Barnes has left Marks and Spencer, where he served as Chief Technology Officer - Delivery, to take on the role of Technology Delivery Director at Asda.

Barnes joined M&S in 2019, following almost 16 years at Accenture.

In a LinkedIn post, he said: “After great four years, it's finally time to hand back my M&S pass and move on to the next challenge. It's been an amazing experience working with so many great colleagues and I'll look back fondly on some of the things we achieved.”

He added: “Some of the highlights I've learned so much from include launching M&S on Ocado; the transformation of the end-to-end food supply chain; delivering a renewed tech landscape and experience in our stores; navigating the challenges of Brexit (whilst learning export rules for a chicken curry!); and helping make M&S #1 in the GCA's GSCOP rankings.”

GRIDSERVE and Simply Fresh have brought Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology to the London Gatwick

Electric Forecourt, which is pitched as the first of its kind to open at any of Europe’s international airports.

The location features 30 EV charging bays and a Simply Fresh Little Fresh convenience store with Just Walk Out technology, where guests can shop while recharging their vehicles.
