Retail tech innovation of the week: Bealls enlists Profitmind for new agentic AI era move

Retail Technology Innovation of the Week is a series brought to you by RTIH, and sponsored by 3D Cloud, highlighting stand out deployments, launches, and initiatives by retailers and tech suppliers.

Every week, we will showcase forward thinking tech plays that have impressed our Editor and the Retail Technology Innovations Report judging panel, alongside the publication of the 2025 report.

And this week we’re focusing on US family owned retailer Bealls reports a company wide deployment of Profitmind’s agentic AI solution covering its merchandise planning and inventory processes.

It is using the platform to speed planning cycles, raise forecast accuracy, maximise inventory productivity, and free teams from manual analysis so they can focus on higher value work.

“Bringing Profitmind’s AI into our planning process is like adding rocket fuel to the way we make decisions,” says Matt Beall, Chairman and CEO at Bealls. “It’s constantly crunching numbers from inside our business and from the market so we can zero in on the best opportunities, how much to spend and where to spend it. For our planning teams, it means less time buried in spreadsheets and more time thinking big, being creative, and staying ahead of what our guests want.”

During the initial roll-out, Bealls accepted 80% of Profitmind’s recommendations and recorded a 20% improvement in plan accuracy. It also used the platform to identify weekly profit drivers and to monitor the real-time financial impact of merchandising and inventory decisions.

“Adopting an agentic AI operating model lets retailers scale expert decision making,” says Dr. Mark Chrystal, CEO and Co-Founder at Profitmind. “Our platform turns complex data into prioritised actions and measurable outcomes. That combination is what moves a planning team from analysis to impact. Bealls is leading the way by using Profitmind to move into this new agentic AI era.”

RTS 2025

Profitmind was crowned the winner at the 2025 Retail Technology Show (RTS) Innovation Awards, which champion progressive technologies powering retail transformation.

Each year, the awards selects solutions from across the RTS exhibition floor that can unlock competitive advantage and digitally transform retailers’ capabilities.

Profitmind was selected as the 2025 winner due to its ability to leverage AI to track competitors, analyse internal data and surface fast-impact revenue and margin growth opportunities to increase productivity, transparency and profitability.

Described by RTS Innovation Award judge and OB&Co’s Oliver Banks as “a commercially minded AI [that lives] in your pocket, crunching through complex data to prioritise business opportunities,” the solution scored highly with the judges, comprising of RTS advisory board members and industry experts and analysts, for its margin-boosting capabilities.

Matt Bradley, Event Director at Retail Technology Show, commented: “With retailers facing a raft of rising costs, already razor thin retail margins are coming under significant pressure. Profitmind puts AI to work, using game-changing insights to deliver growth hacks and pathways to profit, which retailers urgently need to survive and thrive against a backdrop of cost pressure. Up against a high calibre of competition from the rest of the shortlist, we congratulate Profitmind on being crowned the winner.”

2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS

AI will be a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.

The awards. which are now open for entries, celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our 2024 hall of fame entrants were revealed during an event which took place at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place HQ in Central London on 21st November, and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by comedian Lucy Porter.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “The event is now into its sixth year and what a journey it has been. The awards started life as an online only affair during the Covid outbreak, before launching as a small scale in real life event and growing year on year to the point where we’re now selling out this fine, historic venue.”

He added: “Congratulations to all of our finalists. Many submissions did not make it through to the final stage, and getting to this point is no mean feat. Checkout-free stores, automated supply chains, immersive experiences, on-demand delivery, next generation loyalty offerings, inclusive retail, green technology. We’ve got all the cool stuff covered this evening.”

“But just importantly we’ve got lots of great examples of companies taking innovative tech and making it usable in everyday operations - resulting in more efficiency and profitability in all areas.”

Congratulations to our 2024 winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Lucy Porter, and all those who attended November's gathering.
