Ten retail technology investments that should be on your radar

These brands are leading the way in providing retail systems powered experiences that are one step ahead of their customers’ expectations.

1. Migros Ticaret

Turkish retailer Migros Ticaret has worked with Asis Automation to develop a robot product picking assistant called Taro.

The aim is to accelerate the picking of online and curbside grocery orders. 

Taro can also be used to speed up the replenishment of shelves as well as in dark stores, warehouses and large fulfilment centres. 

2. ASKET

Swedish startup Returnado has launched a Returnado Rescue platform which will power ASKET’s new Revival Programme. 

Co-developed with the sustainable menswear brand, this aims to help brands extend the lifecycle of their products and take a more circular approach to consumption. 

3. Costa Coffee

Costa Coffee has teamed with US startup Starship Technologies to launch robot coffee delivery in Milton Keynes.

4. Boxed

Boxed, a New York-based online retailer that sells and delivers bulk sized groceries, has teamed with Lolli to give users up to 5% Bitcoin back on purchases.

5. Carrefour UAE

Carrefour, owned and operated by Majid Al Futtaim in the UAE, has opened a new store at the DXB airport in Dubaii.

This features self-checkout, electronic shelf labels, smart checkout, and mobile scan and go.

6. Delipop

A new Click and Collect network, that allows people to pick up online food orders, is set to be launched in France. 

The Arctan robotics-based offering enables automated order fulfilment at multi-brand collection points. 

Łukasz Nowiński, CEO and Founder, Retail Robotics, and Hervé Street, President at Star Service Group, have created a joint venture under the Delipop brand.

7. B2W Digital

B2W Digital, the owner of the Americanas, Submarino, Shoptime and Sou Barato sites, has announced a Brazil-based livestreaming video commerce platform partnership with OOOOO.

OOOOO was launched in 2020 by Sam Jones, former MD at Wish, and Eric Zhang, former technology executive at Tik Tok.

8. Munich Airport

Munich Airport has become the first European airport to introduce the mobile PayPal QR Code payment system in all its stores.  

This has been deployed at its Eurotrade subsidiary which operates 41 shops including duty free, news and fashion. 

9. Made.com

Online furniture retailer Made.com has announced its first giveaway initiative with the Geev platform.

Available in the UK for the first time, French venture Geev is an app enabling people to donate their unwanted items to others in their neighbourhoods free of charge.

The Made + Geev initiative provides a channel for customers to rehome their old furniture and homewares.

10. Loaf

UK-based DTC brand Loaf has partnered with Cylindo to boost its online furniture shopping experience with 3D product visualisation and 4K zoom.
