£23.5 million…Newly minted unicorn Mirakl is set to invest at least £23.5 million in the UK market over the next two years, as the Paris-based e-commerce venture looks to accelerate growth across Northern Europe.
1,000…Walmart has announced a new store design and layout focusing on a digitally enabled shopping experience.
This will come to 200 of its 4,500 US stores over the next few months and another 800 next year. The aim is to create “seamless omnichannel experiences that save our customers time and inspire them whether in-store, online or via mobile,” an online post notes.
$215 million…Amazon says that it has donated more than $215 million globally to charitable organisations through the AmazonSmile programme since its launch in 2013.
1,000…Morrisons is creating 1,000 new jobs to fulfil online orders for its Amazon partnership.
$10 million…US-based startup LARQ has bagged itself $10 million in Series A funding.
The self-cleaning water bottle brand plans to utilise the capital, which follows an initial seed fund raised back in June 2019, to continue its global expansion and develop its product line.
2…Amazon has introduced Amazon One, which enables people to use their palm for the likes of paying at a store, presenting a loyalty card, entering stadiums, or badging into work.
Customers can now use it as an entry option at two Amazon Go locations in Seattle.
£5…Iceland is providing students with £5 off a £40 online shop and offering priority delivery slots for those registering an account with the retailer using a university email.
The move is part of its efforts to support those most affected by UK coronavirus lockdown measures.
226…Cegid has inked a deal to overhaul the IT systems at French footwear retailer, Minelli.
This will include the introduction of more digital technologies and arming staff with mobile devices at its 226 stores in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Luxemburg and Monaco.
5…THG Ingenuity, the technology services division of online retailer The Hut Group, has announced a five-year partnership with Hotel Chocolat.
The tie up will see the launch of the UK brand’s direct-to-consumer (DTC) offering in the United States.
700,000…Sainsbury’s says that it is on track to deliver 700,000 online grocery orders a week by the end of October.
That number, which covers home delivery and Click and Collect, means the supermarket will have doubled its online capacity since the beginning of March.

135,000…Kroger has confirmed Romulus, Michigan, as the site for its first Ocado powered mini customer fulfilment centre (CFC).
The 135,000-square-foot facility facility will set the retailer back $95 million. It is expected to become operational 18 months after the site breaks ground and will support customers in several markets, including Michigan, Northern Ohio, and Indiana.
£1.3 billion…Aldi UK is planning to invest £1.3 billion in new stores and jobs after posting rising sales during the coronavirus pandemic.
The discounter expects to open around 100 new stores over 2020 and 2021 in line with its long-term target of 1,200 by 2025, alongside over 100 store upgrades under its Project Fresh initiative.
Other investments include new and expanded distribution centres and the roll-out of its Click and Collect service which was piloted and launched to customers last week.
