62…WalkOut, which has developed an autonomous checkout solution, has announced a deal with Machsanei Hashuk, a supermarket chain based in Israel. 

As part of the agreement, the retailer will implement WalkOut’s tech in all 62 of its branches. Deployment will begin next month.

4,000…Online garden centre The Stem has partnered with Stuart to launch a service that will see over 4,000 Christmas trees delivered (within the M25)  to customers over the festive period.

$30 millionTrue Fit, whose online platform is leveraged by apparel and footwear retailers to tackle the fit and size part of the shopper journey, has announced a $30 million funding round led by lead investor Georgian.

300…SPAR was this week forced to close a number of stores following a cyber attack.

More than 300 stores were affected by the incident, although some avoided closing by switching to cash payments.

The cyber attack impacted all of the retailer’s IT systems and left staff without access to emails.

$40 millionSorted, a UK-based startup that specialises in software for online checkouts, warehouses and shipping, has closed a $40 million Series C funding round and acquired Clicksit, an automated returns company.

170Pinterest has released a report covering the 170+ fashion trends to watch in 2022. These include dopamine dressing, aka dressing loud is the new dressing down.

$110 million…Nigeria-based B2B e-commerce and embedded finance platform, TradeDepot, has raised $110 million in an equity and debt funding round.

$13 million…Autonomous sidewalk delivery startup, Serve Robotics, has closed a $13 million seed funding round, with participation from Uber Technologies, Delivery Hero backed DX Ventures, 7-Eleven’s corporate venture arm, 7-Ventures, and Wavemaker Partners’ food automation focused venture studio Wavemaker Labs. 

$38 million…Australian retail technology company, Marketplacer, has secured $38 million in funding to boost its product suite, expand its partner programme, and accelerate US efforts.

300Russian food retailer, X5 Group, is piloting a new store format for its Perekrestok supermarkets with a floor area of less than 300 sq m and a limited product range featuring its bestselling products.

The Jam Perekrestok stores will be located within walking distance of offices and residential buildings. 

The first one has already opened in Moscow, with two more set to be piloted in St Petersburg before the end of 2021.

100…Nineteen Group reports that over 100 exhibitors have signed up with its Retail Technology Show offering, following the event’s launch earlier this year.

This will take place at Olympia London on 26th-27th April 2022. It will aim to “help businesses thrive in the highly disruptive retail sector” and will include a conference agenda. 

4…Sports retailer, Lids, is expanding its brick and mortar presence with the opening of its first standalone stores in Europe. 

For its European debut, it will open four locations throughout the London metropolitan area: Seven Dials (now open) and The 02 Peninsula Square in London, Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex, and Churchill Square Shopping Centre Russel Place in Brighton, all launching in December.

133%…Consumer goods company Thrasio has completed its largest ever “Turkey 5,” the peak sales period running from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday. 

In total, revenue during that period grew 133% over 2020, accounting for both existing brands and new acquisitions. Much of the growth was organic, with Thrasio brands outperforming 2020’s results.

100,000M&S saw over 100,000 mobile app downloads in just 48 hours after the retailer launched its new Sparks digital advent calendar. 

1Asda is testing out new technology which aims to make it easier for blind and partially sighted customers to navigate their way around its Stevenage store.

To coincide with the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities, from 3rd December Asda’s flagship technology store will be the first supermarket in the UK to be integrated into the GoodMaps smartphone app, specifically built for use amongst the blind and partially sighted. 

39%Unregulated buy now pay later (BNPL) products can carry unintended consequences that consumers are often unaware of, according to research from Barclays.

2,000 Brits, who have previously used BNPL services, were surveyed for this. 39% admitted they lack a full understanding of how the products work.
