Food and grocery delivery big hitter Deliveroo launches invitation only Plus Diamond loyalty programme

Deliveroo has launched Plus Diamond, an invitation only tier to its loyalty programme for top users.

The £19.99 a month subscription service offers exclusive access to restaurants such as IZAKAYA at Dreams in Notting Hill, London, and Ming Jiang in Kensington, as well as upmarket retailers such as Mayfair’s Hedonism Wines, and The Black Farmer.

Other benefits include priority delivery on every eligible order, the company’s most generous On-Time Promise, and ring-fenced customer service agents.

Deliveroo already has silver and gold level Plus memberships with free delivery on orders above £15 and £10 respectively. For Plus Diamond orders are free for orders over £10 from restaurants and over £15 from stores.

Plus customers now account for 40% of Deliveroo’s global order volume and spend three times more on average than non-Plus customers. It is aiming to have a majority of its orders from Plus customers by 2026.

CEO, Will Shu, says: “We’re very excited to launch our invite only loyalty programme, Plus Diamond.”

“Diamond is our most exclusive subscription yet and provides our top customers with a whole host of fantastic benefits from premium delivery and a direct line to dedicated customer care agents, to credit back and bespoke events.”

“Put simply, it will be the best way to get the most out of Deliveroo.”

AI

“AI is everywhere,” said John Bates, Technology Director at Morrisons at Retail Technology Show (RTS) 2024 in London during April.

Fellow panellists from B&Q, Deliveroo and Morleys Department Store certainly agreed, as they laid out how to use it for competitive advantage.

Bates discussed AI’s use in the supply chain and on store replenishment, where linked cameras can identify gaps and feed a visual and data AI model to get product back on shelves quickly.

“We use it for demand forecasting and have lots of Proof of Concept (PoCs) at the moment,” he commented.

“I’m interested in using AI to fill in meta data blanks via the ChatGPT application at present,” said Paul Wilkinson, Product Director at Deliveroo, while pointing out that AI had built and enabled the company’s business.

“There wouldn’t be a Deliveroo without AI. Without it, we couldn’t organise all our riders, shops, pick-ups and so on. There would be too many inputs and too much data to handle without AI helping us.”

Task management is a key strength of the technology.

“We’re now using it to branch out into new marketplaces, away from our food delivery core, into Screwfix DIY deliveries for instance,” added Wilkinson, joking that the RTS conference audience “would be surprised how much sealant we sell.”
