Pornhub Toys sells out as coronavirus rewrites retail rulebook

Adult entertainment platform Pornhub recently launched a new range of sex toys.

And, somewhat unsurprisingly, given a coronavirus pandemic that necessitates social distancing and keeps people at home for large periods of time, these are selling like hot cakes.

Pornhub Toys is powered by Shopify and builds on Pornhub Apparel, which launched in 2015.

Sextech rising

There will be over 36 million connected sextech devices in use in 2020, rising from 19 million in 2019, according to Juniper Research.

These are compatible with smartphone devices, enabling the user to have greater control via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Recent coronavirus lockdown measures in multiple countries, high confidence in online retail, and increased spare time are key drivers here.

Long-term growth in demand for sextech devices, such as connected vibrators and kegel exercisers, will be driven by their increasing inclusion in the sexual wellness movement.

Juniper Research reckons that changing attitudes towards this concept will lead to increasing consumer demand, which will in turn lead to greater availability from retailers. This will drive the market value to over $9 billion by 2025, up from $3.8 billion in 2020.

Juniper Research’s Scarlett Woodford says: “Interest in sextech devices has been driven by the use of connected vibrators in adult cam shows and pornography. This will be most profoundly felt in North America, which has a high viewership of both content formats.”
