Pinterest taps into video explosion with Idea Pins move

Pinterest is introducing Idea Pins (previously known as Story Pins), its multi-page video format, to all creators (influencers) in the UK, US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

“This new access and capability will empower anyone with a business account to create inspiring content and better interact with their audiences, building more engaged communities directly on Pinterest,” a press release states.

“From the Pinner's perspective, Idea Pins is a new way to dive into expert ideas without leaving the Pinterest app.”

The press release adds: “Idea Pins are a new kind of Pin that enables creators to share inspiration in a rich, immersive way. It allows creators to publish high quality, long lasting, saveable content directly on the platform rather than simply distributing and sharing after it’s published elsewhere.”

Creators can use their camera to capture videos and edit them on Pinterest, import media, as well as add text, voice overs or music, and play with different filters and fonts to tell their story.

Pinterest says that great content gets surfaced and resurfaced over and over again, for months, not minutes.

“That means the creator's hard work simply works harder, as we serve it to new audiences the moment they are most open to receiving it, not just when they happen to publish it,” the press release states.

It adds that Idea Pins were born out of Pinner feedback. Users can engage with the ideas they find on Pinterest, without having to go to another site to learn more.

“Video, in particular, is absolutely exploding on Pinterest, as Pinners now watch just shy of one billion videos a day,” the release concludes.
