Bookseller Thalia kicks off roll-out of new Diebold Nixdorf self-checkout solutions in stores
Thalia, an omnichannel bookseller in the DACH region with around 6,000 employees, has selected Diebold Nixdorf to introduce new self-checkout solutions.
Planned through mid-2024, the project will involve a total of 500 modular DN Series EASY eXpress systems for the German market, and more than 100 systems for Austria and Switzerland.
In addition, Diebold Nixdorf will leverage its services technician network to provide on-site troubleshooting and support services for Thalia in all three countries.
German retailer Netto: thousands of store brand food and beverage products now Digimarc Recycle ready
German retailer Netto Marken-Discount reports that its private labeled food and beverage products are now digitised using Digimarc technology, including incorporating covert Digimarc digital watermarks into the packaging.
“It is exciting to partner with retailers like Netto that are setting the example for the rest of the industry and leading the way for a circular economy,” says Digimarc CEO Riley McCormack.
“More sustainable packaging is becoming a business imperative, and ourdigital watermarks are transforming recycling as a validated way to improve circularity dramatically.”
“We initially cooperated with Digimarc to optimise our checkout by digitising our private label food and beverage products with Digimarc’s technology,” says Christina Stylianou, Netto Corporate Spokesperson.
“Netto is now also well positioned to adopt Digimarc Recycle by leveraging the same Digimarc digital watermarking technology that makes the checkout easier and more efficient. We are ready and excited for Digimarc Recycle to come to Germany in the near future.”
Coach Play concept store in Singapore plays host to Coachtopia immersive, circular economy takeover
This lines up alongside launches in Tokyo's Harajuku and Salt Lake City’s City Creek, with more to come.
And it has now been taken over by Coachtopia, Coach’s new sub-brand which focuses on circular products and collaborations with creatives.
In a LinkedIn post, Giovanni Zaccariello, SVP Global Visual Experience at Coach, said: “Our Coach Play Singapore transforms into a fully immersive Coachtopia takeover.”
“The installation includes a new digital “cloud” installation and new cafe treats ☁️☁️☁️. The production is fully circular including inocra fixtures, neons, vm props and more. Congrats team on this launch.”
Jennifer Roebuck takes on non-executive director role at all female members club AllBright
Jennifer Roebuck has joined the board of AllBright, a career network for women, as a NED.
Roebuck is currently CMO at Web3 specialist Metaversal.
She has also worked at Ted Baker (as Chief Customer Officer) and Sephora UK (as CMO).
AllBright launched in 2018 and supports women at all ages and professional stages with online training courses, events, exclusive content and networking opportunities. With a reach of 500,000, it serves as a space for women to connect, network and learn from eachother virtually and IRL.
Robotics firm Sereact raises $5 million to ‘overcome labour shortages, fix supply chains and boost productivity’
German startup Sereact has announced a $5 million seed funding round led by Point Nine and Air Street Capital.
Founded in 2021, the company is building AI powered software that fully automates the pick and pack process in warehouses and manufacturing.
Its latest offering, PickGPT, combines its patented work in computer vision with large language models, the technology underpinning ChatGPT.
PickGPT is pitched as the first commercially available robotics transformer that enables robots to understand natural language and perceive their environment with an unprecedented level of intelligence and accuracy.
The aim is to democratise access to robotics by allowing users with no technical expertise to instruct and debug the system in a simple chatbot interface.
Lowe’s taps 3D Cloud by Marxent technology as it updates Kitchen Planner Suite for summer season
Lowe’s has launched a new Kitchen Visualiser tool online as part of a summer update to its Kitchen Planner Suite.
This is powered by 3D Cloud by Marxent technology.
In a LinkedIn post, Timothy Looney, Sr. Manager of Product at Lowe's Companes, said: “The visualiser complements the Style Quiz and Estimator, allowing customers to see what a kitchen of a similar size and layout of their own will look like with different cabinet styles, hardware, countertops, paint, backsplash, and flooring. Check it out!”

The Seattle-based beer, wine and spirits retailer is gearing up to open the doors to its new, 4,200 square-foot location on 7th Avenue between Olive and Stewart, across from Pacific Place, featuring a fully checkout-free shopping experience powered by Amazon Just Walk Out technology.
This will take place on Thursday, 10th August.
Pigment picks Brightpearl retail technology as it moves on up in e-commerce and wholesale worlds
Homeware brand Pigment has chosen Brightpearl by Sage technology ahead of its e-commerce and wholesale expansion.
Brightpearl’s retail operating system (ROS) includes a library of Plug & Play integrations, an Automation Engine and demand forecasting.
Opened in 2007, originally as a space to showcase the work of local artists in San Diego, Pigment has evolved into a retailer of home and garden wares, with three stores across the city and growing e-commerce and wholesale arms of the business.
It decided to move away from its previous software, Retail Pro, after struggling with endless glitches and tedious manual processes, alongside a lack of multi-channel functionality which the brand desperately needs to grow successfully.
Erwin Brunner joins online grocery delivery firm Rohlik Group as Chief Operating Officer
European online grocery retailer, Rohlik Group, has announced the appointment of Erwin Brunner as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Brunner previously served as Vice President of European Operations at GoPuff and Vice President of Operations EU at Amazon.
During his tenure at Amazon, he played a key role in optimising supply chain processes, implementing innovative logistics solutions, and driving operational efficiencies. At GoPuff he drove European expansion.
In his new job, Brunner will oversee the company's operations, including fulfilment, last mile and supply chain logistics.
