Southern Co-op teams with Deliveroo to expand on demand groceries offer

Southern Co-op has launched a new partnership with Deliveroo across 139 stores, bringing its products direct to doors across the South of England.

Customers within a 2km radius of the participating stores, including Guildford, Wimbledon, and Winchester, will be able to choose from up to 6,500 product lines, from everyday essentials, through to specially selected locally sourced brands which are unique to each location.

Once customers place an order through the Deliveroo app, products are picked and packed by Southern Co-op colleagues before being delivered by Deliveroo’s network of riders in as little as 20 minutes.

Simon Eastwood, Chief Operating Officer at Southern Co-op, says: “We pride ourselves on listening to our members and customers in the local communities we serve, and this is our next step in giving them more, direct to their door.”

“From household essentials to Friday night favourites, this partnership makes it easier than ever for people across the South of England to access our products, including those who may not be able to physically visit a store or families who are juggling busy schedules.”

“With the preference for on-demand groceries showing no signs of slowing down, we’re pleased to give our customers more choice in how they want to shop with us and look forward to expanding this in the near future with six more stores due to join the partnership in due course.”

Suzy McClintock at Deliveroo says: "We're delighted to welcome Southern Co-op to Deliveroo. This significant partnership dramatically expands choice for our grocery customers across the South of England. We know that more than ever our customers value speed and convenience, and this partnership gives them access to groceries delivered straight to their door in as little as 20 minutes.”

2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS

On demand delivery was a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.

VoCoVo, Everseen, Sensei, Gander, Iceland, Olio, Trust Retail, East of England Co-op, Lekkerland SE, Poq, Mamas & Papas, Varner, Sitoo, and Zebra Technologies were among our winners this year.

We received a record number of entries and many fantastic examples of the continued resilience and dynamism of the retail space during hugely challenging times.

Our 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC in Central London on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”

“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”

He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”

Congratulations to our winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Tiff Stevenson, and all those who attended our 2025 gathering.
