28InPost has announced a new partnership in the UK with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). 

With 99 Metrolink stops, TfGM is the second largest local transport network in the UK after the London Underground, with over 5.6 million journeys made each day.

The partnership, which supports TfGM’s green initiative to reduce carbon output, will see up to 28 parcel lockers rolled out at bus and Metrolink stations across Greater Manchester by the end of the year, with 13 already installed. 

600UK-based same day distribution company, CitySprint, is looking to recruit over 600 couriers.

The new hires will support with logistics demand during this year’s peak season and beyond.

18%The global programmable EPoS market returned to growth in 2021, expanding by 18% according to RBR.

Despite having to navigate ongoing supply chain issues, including a global chip shortage, vendors delivered more than two million terminals during the year.

HP remains the world’s largest EPoS vendor, accounting for 17% of shipments.

$100 million and $204 millionCheckout free stores specialist Trigo has bagged $100 million in funding, reaching a total of $204 million raised to date.

The investment was led by Singapore state investment firm Temasek (TEM.UL), and 83North.

New strategic investors include SAP and existing backers also joined the round, including Hetz Ventures, Red Dot Capital Partners, Vertex Ventures, Viola, and supermarket giant REWE Group.

£23 million and £33 millionBuy now, pay later specialist Tymit has closed a £23 million Series A funding round, taking its total investment to date to £33 million.

This was led by Frasers Group, the British retailer that owns Sports Direct, Jack Wills and Game.

300Rapid grocery delivery firm, Getir, has announced that it will be stocking a broad range of Co-op products. 

From this week, it will be piloting the new offering, consisting of around 300 Co-op lines across ambient and fresh, in select stores in London, expanding to additional locations in the coming months.

Getir will be working with Nisa Retail, the wholesale division of The Co-op Group, who will be supplying their own brand products. 

A trial will take place in the Battersea, Earls Court, Seven Sisters, Balham, Tottenham and Bethnal Green stores, leveraging Getir’s network to enable delivery of groceries within minutes.

76%Shoppers are returning to shop in stores in similar numbers seen prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to research by Zebra Technologies.

But most (76%) want to get in and out as quickly as possible. And they’re willing to help make that happen with their growing affinity for self-serve technology.

1Ecuador’s Corporación El Rosado has become the first in the country to select Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions’ Self Checkout System 7.

It will install 400 units in more than 150 stores.

£1.3 millionPenny Black, an e-commerce platform that turns packaging into a marketing channel, has received £1.3 million in seed funding from AGFA and ninepointfive.

Incubated in AGFA’s innovation lab, supported by ninepointfive, Penny Black launched independently in the UK and Europe in April.

Its software connects e-commerce stores, marketing tools and fulfilment operations to deliver personalised experiences at the moment customers open their e-commerce packages.

4,700Walmart is joining Premium Payback, a real-time rewards redemption network from FinTech big hitter FIS.

This will give consumers the opportunity to redeem their credit card rewards points for real-time discounts at more than 4,700 Walmart stores across the US.

Those using eligible cards will be prompted at checkout with the option to turn their card rewards currency into discounts, which will be deducted from their purchase amount.

£1 millionMoney saving and rewards app startup, Jisp, reports that its Scan & Save solution has racked up £1 million in retail sales.

14…Alibaba Group this week officially kicked off the 14th edition of its 11.11 Global Shopping Festival, featuring more than 290,000 brands.

1 millionZippin has hit one million shoppers served worldwide at one of its 73 checkout free stores operated by partners including Levy, Aramark Sports + Entertainment, and Delaware North.

37Just Eat and Lincolnshire Co-Op in the UK have partnered to offer on-demand grocery delivery.

A total of 27 stores across the society’s trading area now offer delivery from Just Eat, with a further 10 live on the platform taking orders for collection.

8Luxury fashion e-commerce platform, Farfetch, and Outlier Ventures, a Web3 accelerator and investor, have announced the first cohort of startups for their Dream Assembly Base Camp accelerator programme.

The eight companies were selected from over 200 applications from around the world. They are as follows: altr, Curie, iiNDYVERSE, METAV.RS, Mintouge, Reblium, SKNUPS and WEAR.

He is embarking on a review to improve the service, with the aim of making the business more efficient and spurring growth, according to a report by The Mail On Sunday.

M&S is looking to increase its share of the UK's food spending in stores and online by more than 25%. Hannah Gibson, the new boss of the Ocado Retail venture, is spearheading the review.

At present, 75% of the M&S food range is offered through Ocado. Plans are afoot to increase that closer to 100% in the coming months.
