‘Writing history together’: Carrefour chooses Pricer as exclusive electronic shelf labels partner

Carrefour has picked Pricer as its exclusive supplier of electronic shelf label (ESL) solutions for the next three years.

This covers new installations and replacements as the French retail giant looks to boost its store automation and communication solution.

The deal with Carrefour, which has been a Pricer customer for the past 20 years, contains no commitments with regard to volumes or amounts.

"Due to their outstanding service, we have selected Pricer as our partner for the next three years for Carrefour in France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Romania and Poland,” says Miguel Angel Gonzalez Gisbert, Global CTDO and Digital Transformation at Carrefour.

“This new step of collaboration will improve our business through the latest generation of ESL features, central for critical areas like pricing, promo, automation or retail media.”

Payments, omnichannel, and the meh-taverse: RTIH brings you six key takeaways from Retail Technology Show 2023

Retail Technology Show took place last week at London Olympia. And it was really rather good. Here are our six key takeaways from a fantastic two days of innovative exhibitors and thought provoking conference sessions.

CircularX named 2023 Innovation Awards winner at Retail Technology Show 2023 in London

Retail Technology Show 2023 has announced CircularX, which powers second-hand and pre-loved commerce capabilities, as the winner of its 2023 Innovation Awards.

CircularX is a SaaS platform that enables both retailers and brands to design and launch omnichannel second-hand and pre-loved retail offers.

Offering a white label solution, it also provides buyback, refurbishment and re-sale options.

Red Ant: personalisation tops integration as retailers’ greatest challenge and driver for success in 2023

A survey of UK retailers by Red Ant reveals retailers’ biggest challenges and drivers for success in 2023.

68% claim personalised services is their key driver for retail tech investment in 2023 – while personalising the customer experience has overtaken data integration to become brands’ biggest challenge (for 30% of respondents).

This year siloed data came a close second with 23% identifying it as their biggest challenge.

The research, conducted by Red Ant at Retail Technology Show in London last week, assessed 100 retailers’ tech investments since 2022.

On a positive note, 20% of respondents claim their retail budgets have increased in 2023 and 77% of retail tech budgets stay the same as 2022.

Retail Technology Show 2023 report: Conference panel predicts a multitude of payment options

“Consumers will have so many more payment options in the future,” said Gareth Hughes, Executive Director Retail Technology North America, Estée Lauder, during a conference session on the last day of Retail Technology Show (27th April) at London Olympia.

Panellists from Morrisons, Studio Retail, part of Fraser Group, and others debated the future of contactless, card, digital wallet and currency payments, tokenisation, and the ecosystem likely to emerge at the end of this decade as trends such as Open Banking accelerate.

Interchange fees will see considerable change over the next five years and biometric usage for security purposes will rise, predicted Hughes at Retail Technology Show 2023’s concluding payments panel.

Hughes added that the buy now pay later (BNPL) explosion seen with Klarna and its ilk in recent times will face new challenges: “As more regulation is imminent and higher interest rates might hamper them. This will impact their pricing discussions with merchants.”

“Bank-to-bank payments – sometimes called account to account – will also rise,” said Hughes. This should cut costs and be a boon for retailers as expensive card usage declines.

Sam Edelman taps Archive retail technology for launch of peer-to-peer resale platform

Caleres owned lifestyle brand Sam Edelman has announced the launch of ReLove, a resell programme for its preloved footwear created in partnership with sustainability and technology platform Archive.

“We take pride in using the highest quality materials to design pieces that are made to last," says Jesse Edelman, the company's GM SVP.

"With ReLove, we can extend the life of our products while giving our customers another choice when buying our shoes."

CEO and Co-founder at Archive Emily Gittins says: "We are excited to partner with Sam Edelman to introduce resale to the brand’s customers for the first time through the launch of the ReLove programme.”

“ReLove is custom designed to be an extension of the brand and to ensure that beloved Sam Edelman pieces can live multiple lives.”

Nicolas Hammer, Co-founder and CEO, Critizr, gives RTIH the lowdown on the customer satisfaction and experience management specialist’s decision to change its name to Goodays, launch an AI lab, and appoint a new Chairman.

Retail Technology Show 2023 discussion panel report: Unlocking the value of retail data

RTIH’s Neil Ainger reports from Retail Technology Show 2023, which took place last week at London Olympia.

When discussing how to drive data driven marketing and other insights, Curry’s Head of Decision Sciences, Robert Bates, joked: “You could find a systems integrator and give them a blank cheque,” during an afternoon panel debate at Retail Technology Show 2023 on 26th April.

“Alternatively, you could use targeted decision-making to design datasets you want and work out how to use them properly,” said Bates more seriously, as he advocated aligning the tech, people and process – not just focusing on a data project as a technology only initiative, which won’t deliver a good outcome.
