Dutch organic supermarket chain Ekoplaza taps VusionGroup solutions for store efficiency and sustainability
VusionGroup has announced the roll-out of its multicolour smart electronic shelf labels (ESLs) and VusionCloud platform at Ekoplaza, an organic supermarket chain in the Netherlands.
After a pilot installation in July 2024 in Den Bosch, the Dutch retailer will now implement VusionGroup’s solutions across its stores.
"We are committed to ensuring efficient and effective processes that align with our dedication to quality and sustainability. VusionGroup’s solutions will enable us to enhance our store operations, provide clearer product information, and support our core values. By improving the customer experience and achieving cost savings and efficiency, we can continue to offer high quality, eco-friendly products to consumers.” comments Luc Heijl, Omnichannel Manager at Ekoplaza.
The VusionCloud platform will enable Ekoplaza to remotely manage and update ESLs. This will save valuable time for associates, allowing the retailer to focus on maintaining the quality and ethical sourcing of its products.
Additionally, ESLs will automatically trigger out-of-stock notifications through a specific display update to better inform consumers and associates. Ekoplaza is also set to explore additional features in the future, such as pick-to-light, to further improve the in-store e-commerce order preparation.
“We are excited to collaborate with Ekoplaza on their digital transformation journey. Our Cloud platform and ESL solution will enable the Dutch retailer to streamline operations, enhance the shopping experience, and uphold their commitment to sustainability. This partnership marks a significant step forward in our mission to create a positive impact across the EMEA region”, concludes Sébastien Fourcy, SEVP EMEA at VusionGroup.
The integration with Cisco Meraki’s Wi-Fi infrastructure will facilitate faster deployment and reduce costs and the carbon footprint of the implementation of the solution as there is no need for extra hardware. Additionally, the use of recycled plastic in ESLs and their fixtures, along with sustainable cloud hosting by Microsoft, aligns with Ekoplaza’s ESG commitments.

2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS
ESLs will be a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.
The awards. which will open for entries in March, celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.
Our 2024 hall of fame entrants were revealed during an event which took place at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place HQ in Central London on 21st November, and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by comedian Lucy Porter.
In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “The event is now into its sixth year and what a journey it has been. The awards started life as an online only affair during the Covid outbreak, before launching as a small scale in real life event and growing year on year to the point where we’re now selling out this fine, historic venue.”
He added: “Congratulations to all of our finalists. Many submissions did not make it through to the final stage, and getting to this point is no mean feat. Checkout-free stores, automated supply chains, immersive experiences, on-demand delivery, next generation loyalty offerings, inclusive retail, green technology. We’ve got all the cool stuff covered this evening.”
“But just importantly we’ve got lots of great examples of companies taking innovative tech and making it usable in everyday operations - resulting in more efficiency and profitability in all areas.”
Congratulations to our 2024 winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Lucy Porter, and all those who attended November's gathering.
