Lima Airport announces opening of second terminal featuring Living Map digital wayfinding technology

Following the launch of interactive map provider Living Map’s digital wayfinding technology in Terminal 1, Lima Airport has added the solution to its new second terminal.

Passengers and visitors to the new Terminal 2 can use the digital map on the airport’s website or using QR codes located throughout the building to navigate to key locations including security, gates, stores and restaurants.

Living Map has introduced location-based notifications for the launch, allowing retailers in Terminal 2 to highlight promotions, discounts, and events to passing passengers.

The map’s data insights can also be used to help airport operations improve the space by analysing foot traffic, passenger flow and preferences.

“We’re proud to have played a key role in the launch of Lima’s Terminal 2. Our multi-lingual wayfinding solution, combined with location-based advertising on the map, is designed to enhance the airport experience, driving success for both retailers and passengers alike,” says Peter Asman, Chief Revenue Officer at Living Map.

Javier Cabanillas, Lead of Digitalisation at Lima Airport Partners, adds: “After testing the technology in Terminal 1, we were able to verify the quality and ease of use of the platform. An important benefit that we took into account was that it is a web platform, and the passenger does not have to download any app on their smartphone to be able to use it.

“This is why we brought the technology to the new terminal, being the first airport in the region to have this technology, which not only shows the route to follow to reach a destination, but also shows the real-time location of the passenger, making the user experience very intuitive and simple, which is a very important aspect for us.”

Earlier this year, Metrocentre worked with Living Map to simplify navigation around the site by implementing a digital mapping solution accessible via the Metrocentre website and 13 interactive kiosks, located throughout the shopping centre.

2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS

Digital retail will be a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.

The awards, which are now open for entries, celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our 2024 hall of fame entrants were revealed during an event which took place at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place HQ in Central London on 21st November, and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by comedian Lucy Porter.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “The event is now into its sixth year and what a journey it has been. The awards started life as an online only affair during the Covid outbreak, before launching as a small scale in real life event and growing year on year to the point where we’re now selling out this fine, historic venue.”

He added: “Congratulations to all of our finalists. Many submissions did not make it through to the final stage, and getting to this point is no mean feat. Checkout-free stores, automated supply chains, immersive experiences, on-demand delivery, next generation loyalty offerings, inclusive retail, green technology. We’ve got all the cool stuff covered this evening.”

“But just importantly we’ve got lots of great examples of companies taking innovative tech and making it usable in everyday operations - resulting in more efficiency and profitability in all areas.”

Congratulations to our 2024 winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Lucy Porter, and all those who attended November's gathering.
